Product Description
Water Filtration using Membrane Technology and Ultrasound
Developed as a method of continuous filtration of liquids, MicroSintFilter™ comprises a series of filter modules, at least one of which is in operation while a further module is in standby or cleaning mode. The addition of an ultrasound unit serves to inactivate bacteria and is a highly effective method of cleaning the filter membrane, making the system largely maintenance-free and eliminating the need for system downtime in order to change or clean filters. In addition, automatic backflushing takes place via the inactive module. MicroSintFilter™ is an ideal add-on for pre-filtration processes in fluid circuits requiring a high level of freedom from particulate matter.
The filter modules comprise a metallic membrane (special sintered pipe) plus the ultrasound unit with cleaning function. MicroSintFilter™ generates extremely low maintenance costs throughout its lifetime; the materials used are guaranteed for their high mechanical and chemical durability. A special feature of the filter is its option of selecting the membrane pore size and microfiltration rate, from 0.1 μm to particle or coarse filtration at 200 μm. The active filter surface area of the MicroSintFilter™ is scalable from 600 cm² to 1.8 m², enabling the system to be used for custom solutions designed for flow rates from 10 m³/h to 8,000 m³/h.
Filtration may use one of two processes, both of which can be performed simultaneously using the same MicroSintFilter™ system:
1. Cross-flow filtration
2. Dead-end filtration
About 1.) In cross-flow filtration, coarse solids are immediately flushed out of the first filter module through a hole in the base. This has the benefit of removing solids or sediments from the filter which would otherwise clog the membrane.
About 2.) In dead-end filtration, solids are flushed out from the second filter module in the backwashing process.
Comparability is a problem in evaluating different filtration technologies. An index of parameters used in the filtration market enables MicroSintFilter™ to be compared with competing products. The index applies the calculation: m³/h/m²/bar. When the interdependency of filtration rating, filter surface, maximum flow rate and operating pressure is monitored, MicroSintFilter™ is generally shown to deliver above-average performance for each pore size in comparison to competitors' products.
